Well, at least the dongles didn't have that problem... I think the part of the license server that detects the hardware configuration is more strict than needed, and this can be improved. Releasing the licenses manually is a bit more complicated, but probably still doable.

I don't know how it actually works, but changing the GPU might have changed the ID that is used to identify the machine, so maybe the licenses were considered "engaged" on your old, now non-existent machine.

I asked, and actually the GPUs are not included in the calculation of the machine ID.
It is still possible that adding the GPU was the cause of the problem, so the online dev team will investigate making the machine ID generation as robust as possible.

If the user can't solve that alone you need pretty fast 24/7 support. Else the software license idea is dead in my opinion.
What if it happens Friday late where you need to render something over the weekend? Before Monday the support won't help you, thats a no go.
