  • DR / Variation Texture

    Hello,

I'm using the Variation Texture in "Item Mode" to randomize watches strap color. It works fine until I use DR. Seems that different computers use different random numbers, so the color is not the same according to the machine which render.

Is it something that could be corrected ?

    Hey Pierre,

Thank you for your post. I've been making a few trails and I could not reproduce the issue. As attached files are my references and scene file. Can you try it with you set up in case that you could not be able to send to a scene file ?

I can't reproduce this on a simple scene with DR between Windows and Mac.
There must be something more complicated going on in your scene.
Can you send it to me ? You can replace the watches with something more simple, if it still reproduces the bug.

Also, do you have the same build on your DR slaves and main machine ?
Support for Item mode was added on 2016.06.16 , any older builds won't have it.
The slaves need to be running V-Ray Standalone in server mode from the V-Ray for MODO installation. V-Ray for Maya won't do.

        Hi Boyan, Vladimir,

I did a test with the scene, the result is the same than on my scene. So the issue is coming from the Standalone build, it's the V-Ray Universal Standalone last build from 2016.06.10.

So for using V-Ray Standalone with V-Ray for Modo installation, I have to use the vray.exe located in C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\MODO x64\vraysl ? ( with the -server after the file path ? )

          Yes, that's the correct one.
There is a short-cut in the Start Menu in Windows for starting it in server mode - Launch V-Ray Render Slave.

Ok now it's working fine, but I noticed a little issue ( not for my case howewer ). DR slaves don't see the visibility options of the environment.

Does this has been fixed in the latest builds?

Yes, this was fixed in the 2016.07.12 nightly build.
