  • Problems with VRLservice (borrowed licenses, restarting service, download logs)

I decided to test out borrowed licenses to understand how they work. I've found a problem with VRLservice (License Server 4.2.0).

    1. I borrow a modo UI and render node license
    2. I disable my network card
NOTE: At this point everything is working fine. I can use modo and render. I can also log into the license server (localhost:30304)
    3. Stop the license server (VRLservice)
    4. Start the license server (VRLservice)

At this point VRLservice will not restart (it seems to try to start then stop). The windows event log shows:

    Event 7034, Service Control Manager
The VRLService service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s).

The only way to restart the service is to re-enable the network card and go online. Once there is an internet connection, the VRLservice can be restarted.
If you need to go online to restart the server, it defeats the purpose of "offline licensing"

Second problem found while testing this:
I also discovered that clicking Notifications > Download logs, crashes the server. I can see it stop and start several times in the event log, but it never restarts:

    Event 7031, Service Control Manager
The VRLService service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 1000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

Manually restarting the service works though

        Hi Funk,

Yep, I did it. We've been updating the OLS to release 3.0, so you can download it from here: https://download.chaosgroup.com/?product=48. Have a nice day.

OK the fixes look good. I can no longer reproduce the 2 problems I mentioned here.

            Thanks again
