  • RT GPU - multi material contains sub-material ID which is too big.

I am attempting to use RT GPU again after a few enjoyable months with RT CPU. I swear I've seen the answer to this question and it used to crash V-ray (and now gives an error message) but I couldn't come up with it in the search engine.

What does this error (see post title) mean I'm doing wrong? I thought it was too many materials, but since I took my scene and deleted all the materials, it must not be that. Too many meshes? I can't even find a sub-material ID to be suspicious of. This is CAD data brought in through the CAD loader in 801 rendered with V-Ray in 801 or modo 10. Vray is 3.40.02. I'm sure there is a field for sub-material id somewhere in the GUI but haven't found it yet.

Small models with this workflow seem to work, so it's something I'm blowing out. My guess (likely wrong) is too many meshes.

    Thanks,
    Mark

It means you have an imported CAD mesh that has thousands of part tags.
Delete the tags by assigning a Default part tag.

Edit: sub-material ID refers to an internal ID that V-Ray assigns to mesh polygons, it's not something you can set from the UI.
