  • Hide base geometry of fur/ hair material

    Hi there

As I understand "Remove Base Surface" does not currently work in Vray for modo in the fur material.
I downloaded your example file scene from the modo forums here:
    https://community.foundry.com/discuss/post/1035802

the base surface is hidden if you have only one environment group, but if you need two (one for hdri and one for blank colour for example) it no longer works.

In the image attached, you can see the hdri still visible through the base where it should be the green colour of the second environment.

I can work around it, by moving the whole group above the base shader, then adding a shader to the surface group and the fur group, but that seems to not be the best way of doing it.

Have overlooked a simpler way of doing this or am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks
    Simon

Yes, there is a simpler way, just set the Dissolve Amount to 100%, instead of using Transparency Amount. Transparency Amount can be set to 0%.
Using Transparency Amount makes the material refractive, so it uses the environment for refractions.
My mistake there in setting up the example, didn't think about multiple environments.
Using Dissolve Amount should also be faster.
