  • Film Offset Not Working in RT GPU (Physical Camera Enabled!)

    Hi all,

I seem to have a problem with the camera's Film Offsets not working in RT GPU.

I've read through a couple of forum posts and the release notes and I am aware that this will only work when using a Physical Camera for RT GPU, however even with this enabled my settings on both X and Y are being ignored.

Has anyone got this working for GPU?

I'm on Modo 10.2v2, Mac OS 10.2.1 if that helps.

    Regards,

    Andy

What is your V-Ray for MODO build ?
It has to be 3.50 or 3.52 for this to work, it won't work in the the 3.40.02 builds.

      Hi Vladimir,

I'm currently using the latest nightly, definitely a 3.5x build.

I did start the scene in a 3.40.02 build, however I have tried removing the Physical Camera package and added it back again though it still ignores the Film Offsets specified in the Modo camera.

      Regards,

      Andy

I will need the scene that's not working then.

          Hi Vladimir,

Thanks for getting back. Scene attached below. I've had to strip it out as I can't share many of the models/textures but result is still the same. I've also tried setting up a new scene, simple cube with an offset but doesn't seem to be working. Ive attached this one too along with screenshots so you can see the result I'm getting on my end.

This seems to be an issue on macOS only, it's working for me on Windows.
We will investigate further, I am not sure yet whether the problem is in the GPU core or in the export code.

Ahh, I was wondering if it's specifically Mac-related. Come to think of it, some other features aren't working in the GPU such as DoF with a Physical Camera.

If it helps I'm on a 2009 Mac Pro with a Nvidia 980 Ti. (PC Version, non-official Apple card - don't know if this makes a difference. A lot of Mac users with older 4,1 & 5,1 Mac Pros install later model Nvidia cards that aren't officially supported via Apple – they don't have proper Mac UEFI but are recognised by Mac OS and seem work perfectly fine when Nvidia's Web Drivers are installed.) Both Nvidia and CUDA drivers are up to date for my version of the OS (not using the problematic 380+ drivers).

                Hi Vlad,

I was wondering if you were able to figure this issue out at all? (As a test I've been working on the same machine Boot Camp'd into Windows 10 for the past few months to see if PC may be the way forward and the film offset was working fine under RT GPU, however due to other requirements in work and being a primarily Mac-based office I'm back working in OS X and this issue is still present using the latest V-Ray and CUDA drivers.)

Even though it's recognised fine by OS X, is it possible that because it's a non-native Mac card that it's causing some issues? (Though I imagine this older Mac Pro with newer PC graphics card set-up may be quite common with Mac V-Ray users due to Apple not putting Nvidia graphics in their later machines...)

                Regards,

                Andy

This issue is fixed for the next release. Unfortunately we can't merge the fix into the current ones, because it is a change that breaks the SDK compatibility.

It is not related with the GPUs, but with the way dynamic libraries are implemented in UNIX like systems, like Linux and macOS.

                  Best,

                    Hi Blago,

Thanks for getting back, that's great news! Might not have to ditch Mac OS after all...

                    Cheers guys!
