  • V-Ray Skin Material low detail Normal Map

    Hi guys!

    I'm working on a project of a new character and I'm trying to use the normal map generated in ZBrush (with GoZ) with the VRay Skin Material.

    The problem is that comparing with the VRay Material we have less detail. On my tests I found that if we increase the Diffuse Amount on the Skin Material we can see more of the texture (but we lose a bit of the "skin look" of the shader).

    Any thoughts?

    Thank you for the feedback. I'm going to log this behavior to our system.
    Meanwhile, in order to avoid it use the nightly build from 20170420. Btw, you can increase the level details with Normal map multiplier. I think value 1,2-1.5 is far more enough. V-Ray Mtl has more details when using Normal Map but might be a normal behavior. Keep you posted about it.

      Where can I download this nightly build?

      Also I tested different Normal Multiplier values but it only increase the depth/high of the Normal, it doesn't show the extra details that are missing.

      We're trying to achieve the level of detail as shown in this video. (it seems the artist used Normal Map over the Skin shader)

        I would like to recommend you to try AlSurface material as well with the latest official build. You can achieve the result also with this build - https://download.chaosgroup.com/down...o102-34002-adv. This is the link to build: https://nightlies.chaosgroup.com/mai...tlies/20170408 If you don't have access to it, send an E-mail to support@chaosgroup.com with a request for permission to nightlies. Keep you posted.

        EDIT: bear in mind when you use the outdated builds like 3.40.02 they did not have support for MODO 11.
