  • vray for modo water texture

    Hi everybody,

    I just cannot understand which workflow should I use to use the vray "water" texture in modo, is there a tutorial somewhere or anybody can give me an explanation of how this works?

      Hi boyan,
      thanks for your answer. I had seen the help doc already but, what is not clear to me is how to use the texture in the shader stack.. an example of a material setup would be of great help.
      I understood by now that the vector displacement is given by another vray procedural map (vray noise) and that by itself alone the water texture doesn't do anything. Am I correct?

        No, the V-Ray Water texture is used for the Vector Displacement effect. The water choppiness is what needs vector displacement.

        I am attaching an example (MODO scene and screen-shot) of what I could come up with.

        A few notes
        - use "UV Map" projection for the texture locator for the V-Ray Water texture
        - first set the "Patch Size", and then "Height mult", as changing the patch size affects how the height multiplier is interpreted, it seems, and you will have to redo it otherwise
        - changes in displacement are not updated in RT (we have an issue logged), so you will have to restart RT after making changes to the V-Ray Water texture.

          Hi,

          Ok then check the attached file. You can change the "Height Mult" | UV map wrapping and Fog color of V-Ray Material.

          what is not clear to me is how to use the texture in the shader stack
          I will make a note of this one and will add some an example scene or schematic to documentation.
