  • Material ID is not working

I have yet to produce a Material ID image that has colors for materials in it. The Render Element always renders black. Is there something I need to do to get it working? I have added VRay Additional Render Elements to the shader tree and choose material ID . Render in RT and I see the final color looking good, I switch to Material ID in the frame buffer and it is black. Even if I save an EXR, it opens in PS with that layer black.

If you want automatic colors for all your materials, there is the Surface ID output, which is one of the native Modo outputs.
You can create it from the RE button in the V-Ray Toolbar.

With the material ID output, you have full control over which material gets what color.
By default they are all black.
The color is specified in the Material Group item in the Shader Tree, but first you need to click on the Add V-Ray Properties button.

Also, currently there is a bug, so additionally you need to set the Multi matte ID to something other than 0, for example 1.
I will fix this soon, hopefully.
