  • OSX Vray Denoiser for Nuke plugin installation question

    Hi all,

This is more a question about Vray Denoiser plugin for Nuke than Vray for Nuke itself.

We are having trouble getting the Vray Denoiser plugin to install on our mac workstation. We were wondering, if we download Vray for Nuke 3.5 for mac (which comes with Vray Denoiser packaged in) will we be able to use the vray denoiser from within that installation even if we do not have a license of Vray for Nuke? (given you made the denoiser plugin free)

Just trying to find a simple installation process for the plugin.

    Thanks,

    Richard

    Hello,

What kind of a problem do you face when installing the plugin?

      Hi Georgi,

In the readme is says there are 2 ways to setup the VrayDenoiser plugin.

Does that mean you chose 1 or the other? Or does it mean you have to do both steps?

      The first step says:

      - OSX: /Library/Application Support/NUKE/x.x/plugins/
Where <x.x> is the major.minor version of the NUKE in question.

When we go to the /Library/Application Support/NUKE/ folder. There is no folder for the particular nuke version. Also if we are using Nuke 10.5v1 should the folder still be called "10.5"?

If you also need to do the second part of the installation (which is not clear as "There are 2 ways" sounds like you can do one or the other) what is the easiest way of doing that on a mac?

      Thanks,

      Richard

You need only to choose one of the steps so you can paste the files in here - /Library/Application Support/NUKE/10.0/plugins/

If there is no such folder - you can make one.

Version 1.3 of the Denoiser will only work with NUKE 10 it won't work with 10.5.

10.5 version for OSX is still under development.

        Thanks,

@chuckie7413: What GPU does your machine use(AMD or NVIDIA)

And going back to one of your initial questions, if you have access to V-Ray for NUKE OsX build, then you can use the denoiser plugin. It won't trigger a license unless you have a VRayRenderer node in the dag.

            Hi Georgi,

Ok so initially were were trying the 10.5 build as in the readme it still said install for OSX.

FYI we are using the 1.4 version downloaded from here: http://help.chaosgroup.com/vray/misc/vdenoise_nuke.zip

So we tried 10.0 but we still have the same issue.

We try to install by following 1. but it is the same problem. The vray menu does not even appear nor if we try going to Other - All Plugins - Update.

Normally when installing Nuke plugins/gizmos we need to update the menu.py file in the local users ".nuke" folder. But there is no mention of that in your install instructions.

The machine is a trashcan mac pro using dual AMD graphics cards.

We do not have access to the Vray for NUKE builds. Only Demo is listed via website login to download.

            Thanks,

            Richard

Are you sure you are using a correct archive because the 1.4 archive does not have a OSX denoiser?

I'm attaching the 1.3 denoiser for nuke10 osx. You can try if it works. (You should be using nuke 10.0)

Ah ok we thought it was the same as the one in linux folder as the readme mentioned osx for it.

Thanks and will give this a try.

                Best,

                Richard

                  Greetings,
I am also trying to get the Vray Denoiser Nuke plugin working on OSX.
I currently am running Nuke 9.0v6, but am having no luck when loading up any version the plugin. Is Nuke 9 unsupported?

                  Thanks!

Nuke plugins are compiled for a specific Nuke version. It is not possible to load them on another version, it just won't work.
In this case, even more for OSX we can only support build for Nuke 10 (eventually we could also for Nuke 10.5 I think).
So it is not possible to load that same plugin in previous Nuke releases.
