We're doing a tonne of projection shots here with a background matte painting, the occasional boat and some moving water - typical 18th century london stuff. I reckon a tonne of it could be handled by nuke with nice projection geometry from 3d plus an animated water surface if vray for nuke had the ocean tex fed into displacement - Pixomondo did a film called "anonymous" a few years back which had similar types of shots and got the programmers of fusion to write a similar plugin, might be a very handy one for wide, establishing shots!
