  • Promote in Asset Editor - missing

Click image for larger version Name:	promote.png Views:	0 Size:	150.6 KB ID:	1133137 Ana, I just watched the video about customizing the revit materials and using the "Promote in asset editor" button within the appearance manager. I for some reason do not have this button on my appearance manager and I'm up to date. Any advice?

    Hi cnd7jones ,

The "promote" functionality works only with Revit prism materials (aka those new materials that were introduced in Revit 2019).
Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

    Best,
    Ana

Ah got it! Not sure most people would know what the prism materials are, maybe add just what you said to the youtube and help docs . On our end, most of our families were developed pre 2019, so most everything is on the old materials. Is there any hope this could apply to those in the future or should we start figuring out a plan B?

The old materials were announced legacy by Autodesk. That's why we decided to focus our efforts on supporting the new ones.
We could re-evaluate our decision. If you're in hurry, plan B might take you less time though.

Gotcha that makes sense. If Autodesk had a way to upgrade the materials or something I would agree that not proving access to the legacy ones was OK. However, since we're kind of stuck based on Autodesk, either we're recreating the materials again in Revit, or just making a Vray replacement to override with. I'll get with our Revit team to see what their preference is. Thanks Ana for all you do!

            You're always welcome!

I'd recommend you the V-Ray replacement approach combined with the V-Ray material library. That way you'll utilize the V-Ray material capabilities to their full potential. Besides, we're about to expand the library soon after the Christmas holidays are over.

(I'll definitely re-evaluate the legacy materials case.)
