Trying to get a handle on vray lighting

I'm having a rough time figuring out vray environment/exterior lighting. I think I've watched 20 vids and I just keep coming up with more questions and roadblocks.
Right now I'm messing with light gen and the generate variants button is greyed out?? The load button is functional but I have no idea what I am supposed to load.
Ultimately, I would like to master HDR environments but the more I try to set them up the more confusing it gets. Each step generates more questions.(and failures). Can someone point me to a good source
for getting my head wrapped around vray lighting. Dome vs. Vray sun etc.

Hi vanderloo,

Are you trying to Generate Light Gen scenarios while Interactive render is enabled perhaps? If yes, please note that Light Gen cannot be generated during render.
The Load button is for loading previously saved scenarios.
