  • Project VRay settings file

    Hello Everyone,

Where does VRay for Revit save the VRay settings for a Revit project file?
If rename my Revit project file, all the VRay settings get lost, and I have to start from scratch. The problem also exists, if I want to continue my work on a different computer.
Can the setting be found somewhere, and possibly it be loaded into a project?

    Thanks a lot,

    Best Regards,
    Gabor

The V-Ray for Revit settings are shared externally from the Revit project in order to avoid conflicts when using a central file.
If you rename your Revit project by using the Save As command, all current V-Ray settings will be saved along with the new file.
Yes, V-Ray settings can be shared across computers. In the following video, you can find description starting at 26:00min https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImeRErsAGz0&t=1974s

Ana, I tried to follow this link but it didn't get anywhere. Would you mind updating this? Also, does it work with v-ray 5 or did the procedure change?

            Thanks for your assistance!

            //a few minutes later

This appears to be what I'm looking for now, hopefully the will work. Figure I asked and answered in one post!

              Hey Rick,

In addition to what you've already found, mind that the V-Ray settings have been saved within the Revit project file (since version "Next" of V-Ray).

In case of multiple users doing worksharing, each user's settings can be found in the Project Storage drop-down in the Paths & Sharing tab of the V-Ray Settings dialog. All V-Ray assets in the Asset Editor are common for all users, whereas the replacements of materials & geometries as well as lighting and environment settings are user specific (and can be transferred across users). The workflow with .xml files sharing is still valid too.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

              Best,
              Ana
