  • PC Memory Settings

I'm having trouble with my new Boxx S3 workstation. My Vray for Revit renders close out of the program when I try to make a render scene. The process starts, thinks for a while, then when the rendering scene starts my revit program simply closes out without notice. I sent my machine back to Boxx and they returned it with no problems. They tell me that perhaps memory or other settings need to be adjusted. They will not recommend any settings and tell me that it is best for the software providers to recommend settings.
So my question is; Can anyone recommend how to set up your workstation's settings properly for optimal performance for Vray for Revit? I've attached a snapshot of my memory settings. This is the original settings. Not sure if this item is even a factor, but if anyone has recommendations I would greatly appreciate your help.
PS; my Boxx workstation is loaded with plenty of RAM, Great Processor, Great NVidia GPU, etc..., so the pc isn't the issue, something is just wrong with my setup, I think....
I say this because I have another Boxx mobile workstation (at home) and it has no issues like my desktop pc has, but I cant compare the settings, they just aren't the same.
    Thanks,
    Dave

Update; I believe that my Revit / Vray crash was due to Archvision. After I deleted all RPCs, the render proceeding just fine. I then re-inserted new landscape, cars, etc... via Archvision and then all worked fine. The rpc's from an older version of the model were not recognized any longer. Perhaps due to an Archvision update or something. One by one I tested different variables until I discovered that the RPCs were the cause of revit exiting.
I hope this discovery helps some of you out there, but it frustrated the heck out of me for a day.
My pc memory question I believe is still a legit one, so if anyone has any comments to that, please do.
    Thanks,
    Dave

      Hi Dave,

A few questions with regards to the RPCs issue:
      1. How old were the old RPC's? (In which version of Revit were they originally placed?)
      2. Have you by any chance figured out if it was a specific RPC model or all of them were causing the problem?

Hi Ana, sorry for the late reply. The RPCs were not just older ones, but I had custom RPCs for trees and cars and people, where I've used png images in photoshop to give a 90% transparency and then created custom rpc's in Archvision. The for some reason one day (probably an update of the softwares), the rpc's showed up as boxes on the screen and never would render in Vray or even Revit. It was not a fun time. At the same time, my Boxx machine was getting sent back for a processor replacement. After inserting all new rpcs (not custom) all works fine. I broke my own rule for past 20+ years, don't customize any more than absolutely necessary, it may seem nice at the moment, but causes more grief than satisfaction most times.

          Hi Dave,

I believe the issue you describe is either caused by an Archvision update or the paths to the images you used were lost.
Here is a fix for the box looking RPCs: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/suppo...evit-2017.html
And here is another useful topic: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit...s/td-p/6819813

If you can manage to reproduce this consistently, I'll be interested to see a simple sample project.
