HDR files and size.

HDR files varies greatly in size which again affects rendering time. I have tried different size of the same file, (1mb-300) but it does not seem to have an effect on the image. Am I just using too low resolution on my renderings or is there another answer?

A few additional questions:
- what do you use the HDRs for?
- what is the visual effect that you want to achieve? (a screenshot will help us understand you better)
