  • Object replacement limitations

Are there limitations to which category of elements can be used by the object replacement feature?

e.g. for the lighting fixture category only Cosmos elements show up even though there are other lighting fixtures in the model. (no filtering is set)

This limitation does not appear to be document in the Docs? https://docs.chaos.com/display/VREVIT/Objects+Tab

Yes, there is a limitation. You can replace Revit families of the following categories: Casework, Entourage, Furniture, Furniture Systems, Generic Models, Planting, Site and Specialty Equipment.
The issue you're pointing at is fixed in our upcoming update where we've basically changed the way Cosmos assets are displayed in the list.

Let us know if you think that other categories should also be exposed.

Hi Ana, thanks for the quick response.

I think it would be good if all the categories for which there are Cosmos assets could be exposed, eg. lighting fixtures.

Noted. Do you also imagine the ability to replace Revit light sources with V-Ray ones?

That could be an interesting option, but it would be important to be able to read the photometric data out of the Revit light sources as part of that - eg. intensity, colour, IES profiles

Alright. How about swapping one light source with another?
Imagine you have a Revit Lighting Fixture family utilizing the point-spherical light. You want to see how it would look like if the light source was (say) rectangle.

For our use cases I don't think that would be of use. We have quite an extensive library of Revit families with photometric data set up and used for scheduling. These families are not particularly pretty though so being able to swap them out for Cosmos lights whilst keeping the embedded photometric data would be very helpful
