  • Steam effect on glass

    Hi,
Can't seem to find a good reference for how to add a steam effect - particularly a glass, shower door in this case. Vray for Revit 2021. Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Hello JP,

Nice to hear from you again.

To achieve a steam effect, start with a simple glass material and add a texture mask to the Refraction Glossiness slot. It basically controls how blurry a refractive material would be. When using a mask, white will result in fully transparent areas whereas black will create the most blurred areas (like frosted glass). For the steam effect, pale gray colors will be sufficient.

A basic steam effect can be achieved with various procedural textures in the V-Ray Asset Editor (such as Noise or Smoke). I'm sending you an example where you can combine Noise with a Bitmap in order to create falling water drop traces.
To create tiny water drops, you can also add a texture to the Bump slot. From the procedurals, you can use the Cellular texture.

Here's a also a tutorial which basically demonstrates the same approach.

    Best,
    Ana
