  • HDRI Global Illumination

    Hey,

I have been playing around with Dome HDRI illumination, however I'm noticing that my Model is not illuminating relative to the HDRI. For example, it looks like there is a cloud over my model and the surrounding environment is fully lit. I have tried boosting the "Intensity" but that also makes the HDRI environment brighter as well. I was wondering if this was related to the HDRI I'm using or whether I can control this issue using Vray? Any advice would be appreciated

    Thanks, Nick

    Hi Nick,

When you use HDR image, the resulted lighting is based on the image. Thus brighter areas of the image will emit more compared to cloudy areas. You can use the Rotation setting to adjust the image positioning.
It would be good if you can attach some screenshots depicting the issue you described.

    Cheers,

      Hey Ana,

Yeah I understand that, the HDRI I was using had minimal clouds. it didn't matter what angle of rotation I had the effect on the house was the same (the angle of the shadows changed). I have since tried around 10 other HDRI's and have discovered that the EV level plays a massive role. I thought I'd share this website, it doesn't have the best selection of HDRI's for Architecture, but they all have great EV levels.

All in all Vray for Revit kills. I used to use Lumion, this was one third of the price and 10 times more "real" very happy!

      Thanks, Nick
