  • Network license should not be in use when user is not rendering in VRAY for Revit?

We have 10 VRAY for Revit licenses using online licensing, but we have many more Revit licenses. We have VRAY for Revit installed on all of our Revit computers, so as soon as someone launches Revit then a VRAY license is consumed even though the user will not be using the VRAY UI or rendering. The result is that all of our VRAY for Revit licenses are unavailable for those who need to render since we always have enough Revit running to use up all 10 VRAY UI licenses.

It seems to me that VRAY should only pull a license when the addin is being used to render. Am I missing something in my configuration? If not, it seems to me that a change should be made so that VRAY doesn't consume a license unless it is being actively used to render.

Hi, this is exactly the same issue we are facing in the office as well. We have Revit and V-Ray on all the workstations with a smaller number of network licenses for each. Whenever Revit is opened, it utilizes a V-Ray license even though V-Ray is not in use. After all the V-Ray licenses are taken, the next person who opens Revit will get an error "Unable to obtain a V-Ray License. Please update the License information" as well as then the default internet browser will open looking for "http://localhost:30304/activate" (giving a page can't be displayed error). Since We have a network license server (that the endpoints obviously can see since all the licenses get taken when Revit opens) I am assuming that this possibly shouldn't be pointing to "localhost" then, but instead to the machine running the license server? When I change localhost in the url to the address of the license server it displays the licensing information correctly and shows where the licenses are.

Has this issue "been fixed in an upcoming release" already then by chance? For we are using "V-Ray 3.40.02 for Revit 15, 16 and 17 ADV" which says it is the most current released version, and the issue still persists. Is there something we are missing here? Thanks in advance for your help!

TrevorTaylor Neo13 A new release is now live and is a free upgrade for 3.x license owners. This release includes new functionality for licensing that will allow you to install across your domain and only check out licenses as you need them. Thank you for your patience while we got this fixed, and please continue to send us your feedback - I would love to know what you think of the new license integration.
        Best,

I have updated my machines to the latest Vray version and only one of my machines is allowed to use Vray. All the other machines, regardless if the working machine is on or not, gives me the licensing error.

Do you have render node licenses?
