  • Rhino Snapshots and Vray Lights

There appears to be a bug with the new Rhino Snapshots function and Vray lights.

I'm finding that when saving a snapshot (including light states), and then restoring the snapshot, the intensity and several other values of the light are reverting to a default setting. The original settings cannot be recovered with undo.

For my purposes this makes snapshots impossible to use.

    Hello,

V-Ray does not yet provide support for the Snapshots functionality in Rhino 6.
The bug you are currently experiencing is now logged thanks to your report. It appears to be affecting all lights with the exception of Rectangle, Mesh lights and the Rhino Document Sun. My recommendation is to either use only the light types I mentioned or refrain from using Snapshots in combination with V-Ray data until the next V-Ray update which will be compatible with Snapshots.

    Kind regards,
    Peter

      Thanks Peter.

I've also noticed some strange results when the 'Objects > Material Assignment' checkbox is used in snapshots.

Basically when switching between snapshots, objects will lose their material assignment and render completely black, however when checking the object properties it will still be assigned. Also, trying to 'Select objects in scene' from the Asset Editor does not select the object. The only way to select the object by material is to use the Rhino command 'SelMaterialName'.

From what I gather, the 'Material Assignment' tickbox is not meant for Vray materials but it absolutely screws up material assignments. The other option - Rendering > Materials checkbox also doesn't work.

        Thank you for your reply!
As I've already mentioned, V-Ray is not yet compatible with Rhino 6's Snapshots. I'm afraid I cannot provide you with a viable solution for all this yet.
Snapshots support is flagged as high priority and will be working fine in the next official V-Ray release.

        Kind regards,
        Peter

Sorry Peter, I do realise this. I just wanted to add to the bugs I've discovered to ensure it's on your radar.

          Appreciate your help.

                Hello,

Snapshots are supported in V-Ray Next for Rhino, however, this is still an experimental feature that has some limitations.
When setting up a Batch Render (https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...y+Batch+Render), be advised that currently switching to a snapshot may not properly load some V-Ray plugin data. Use with caution!
The Batch Render tool will only register snapshots from the currently loaded model (right-click > Add Current Model). Using the "Refresh" button will clear all listed snapshots.

                Further improvements are being planned.

                Kind regards,
                Peter
