  • Rhino freezing for some minutes

    Greetings everyone.

This problem has been following me for a long time. Sometimes when I am working in a large model, Rhino freezes and a little window appears like in the picture below. I think it is related with v-ray because it usually happens when I am experimenting with the Asset Manager, or just after I press render.
    Is this a known issue?

    Hi maruyama.edson,

There was a freeze like the one described, caused by a big number of objects sharing a material displayed in one of Rhino's rendered viewports.
The root cause is in the way Rhino handles materials (in the rendered viewports) and was sometimes provoked by the Asset Editor.

We have on the other hand added a workaround in our latest V-Ray version - 3.60.03
If you haven't upgraded, then that's the first thing I'd recommend you try.

If this doesn't help let me know and we'll investigate further.

    Regards,
    Konstantin

This situation in the screenshot above was using version 3.60.03.
I think it is something similar to what you described, since it was a very polygon heavy scene (aerial shot with thousands of building volumes, plus a terrain modelled in Lands Design).
In this kind of situation, does working in Wireframe, or other display mode that overrides textures would help?

Rhino freezes at VfR3.60.03 here too, only I don't see the little window appearing. My scene is a heavy polygon model.

Finally I jumped back to Rhino 5 | VfR2 and got the project done.

Working in non-shaded viewport modes should help to some extend.
If there is a specific project project which continuously reproduces this problem, we can take a look at it. Additional info that would be helpful is version number of Rhino, system specs, and list of other 3rd-party plugins used.

            Kind regards,
            Peter
