  • Sudden freezing of VFB

    Hi.

Im encountering sudden freezing of VFB and therefore all V-Ray and Rhino windows. For example render time for succesfully rendered scene is 1 minute. Sometimes VFB freezes for 10 or more minutes before staring to render that 1 minute job. To clarify, during that 10 minutes, absolutely nothing happends. Sometimes during render VFB becomes unresponsive only for zoom, sometimes it freezez totally. Im encountering this problem on two different workstations, only similarities are: Win 10 Pro, Logitech mouse, 3dconnexion controller and Google File Stream for project files. Here's the software specs:

    Rhino3d Version 6 SR13 (6.13.19058.371, 27.2.2019)
    V-Ray Next for Rhinoceros 6 4.00.01
    Windows 10 pro 64 (17763.379)

Earlier with VfR 3.6 everything worked smoothly. Problems started right after updating to Next on both machines. Cant see anything alerting on Windows Event Viewer.

Would really appreciate some help on this, as it's making my job really painful at the moment.

    Thanks in advance!

Hello and apologies for the late reply!
Could you please provide some additional info that may help us narrow down the cause of your problem?
    • Does the issue occur only specific files?
    • Is it reproducible every time you attempt to render?
    • Is there anything printed in the progress log during the freeze? (click the square button at the bottom-right corner of the VFB prior to initializing the render process)
    • Which render engine do you use - CPU/GPU?
If you wish, we can provide you with live assistance to get to the bottom of this in a timely manner. Our Support team is available between 11:00-18:00 EEST (https://www.timeanddate.com/time/zones/eest). If you agree, simply pick a time and let me know either by sending me a forum private message or by emailing at support@chaosgroup.com with a link to this forum thread.

      Hi.

      1. It happens all the files, made a couple of different ones from scratch and the problem remains.
      2. No, it does not happen every time, but occasionally.
      3. Absolutely nothing prints on log during problem, and in those cases when program wont hang totally, it proceeds normally, and log looks exactly the same as in problem free rendering.
      4. Im using CPU rendering on both machines.

      Hopefully this helps!

        Thank you for your reply!
Unfortunately, we were not able to reproduce this in our office environment. If it is alright for you to conduct a remote viewing session with one of my colleagues in order to investigate this further, please let me know.

        Kind regards,
        Peter

          Hi.

Thank you very much, im more that willing to for remote viewing session. Most suitable times for me would be 9am to 1 pm and 3pm to 5pm (CET) on 8th to 11th of April. Hopefully we can make it happen, problems is pretty annoying. Google File Stream is excluded from possible reason.

Hoping to hear from you soon.

              Hello,

I have the same Problem with the freezing windows. Rhino is not responding, aswell. But the rendering still continues for a while. I also found out that the Swarm is not working sometimes. Maybe there is a relation of both problems.

                Hi,

I've have same issue in V-ray Next for Rhino. Whenever I launch Batch render with 3 or 2 view and then if I accidentally or willingly click on the frame buffer it's hangs and stops whole pc to respond. Then I go to task manager and force stop the Rhino. I've also got an online support from Chaos group representative and after many trials by himself he said that it is a bug we need to fix in next update. This is causing so much time and efforts to render manually multiple view to me.

                Win10
                Rhino 5 + V-ray Next
                2x processor of Intel Xeon CPU E5-2630 v4 @ 2.20GHz.
                NVIDIA P4000 Graphic Card.

                  Hi community,

Experiencing the same Freezing window problem which force me to restart my computer every time... Annoying. It seems that the problem 90% of the time come from trying to stop the interactive render through this stop-render button (see image) instead of stop button of VFB.

                  Win10
                  R5 Vray Next

                  -CC

This sounds like the problem I had with Next suddenly freezing, reported in another thread (linking it to autosave, perhaps incorrectly). My Next trial has now lapsed so I can't replicate it but I too had to restart my machine to get things working again. Stopping an interactive render seemed to be the trigger, as mentioned by gouisedeau.
