  • lighting values cpu versus gpu modes

    Hello,
The darker of the attached images is a rendering of IES lighting in CPU mode. The brighter is rendered in GPU mode. Both are set to auto EV and other settings are unchanged.

I would not expect to see such a large difference in output between the two modes. (The CPU mode takes takes much longer and does not come to a complete rendering and its lighting evaluation function does not match what is showing in GPU mode).

Any ideas would be appreciated as this is really thwarting my design.

    Hello, Jeff,
Once again, apologies for the late response! You've mentioned in your other thread the following:

    Has this fixed your issue?
As already mentioned, if you haven't already contacted support@chaosgroup.com , please send over the project for investigation.

    Kind regards,
    Peter

I have learned that restoring to the default does not always fix the issue. The work around appears to be: run the render using settings other than light cache. I'm guessing that for some reason doing so resets the light cache.

I've not sent the project, because i use materials across many files and since I know the materials I don't want to change the names of the materials to make them unique for each file.

Thank you for your reply! We'll look further into this.
If you could create a stripped-down copy of your project with a single light and surface that exhibits the issue and send that scene over, it will help with our investigation. Additionally, please state whether the project is entirely created with V-Ray Next or an older version.

        Kind regards,
        Peter
