  • Heavy project scene doesn't start to render anymore (Rhino 6, VfR 4.2)

    Hi,

I try to render my current project scene but the render process doesn't start. If I hide the most of the scene it render, but the whole scene or a 1/3 of the scene can't be rendered, not in GPU and not CPU mode. Also reset the global options doesn't help. And at Rhino WIP it doesn't work too.

The render button at the asset editor show the red render marker, the process window and the frame buffer stay empty.

Ideas for a workaround are very welcome.

    Hello,
Easiest way we can provide you with a solution is to take a look at the scene. If it's ok, you can send it over to support@chasgroup.com via a file-sharing service.
    As for suggestions:
    • Is this the first time you've attempted to render that project? If not, can you remember and revert what you've last done in your project prior to the failed render attempts?
    • Could you please revert to the default render settings and see if this fixes the problem?
    • Another test you can take is to toggle off VRayFur, hide proxies and clippers, disable displacement.
    • Alternatively, you can hide portions of your scene gradually until the problem is no longer reproducible. This way you might find if specific geometry or special object is blocking the initialization.
    Kind regards,
    Peter

      Hi Peter.Chaushev ,

I was not sure to get contact per support email so fast, but I found a way to send a file to Slavcho. I did some further tests now and found a two little textured surfaces which cause the issue. Attached my latest stripped down test file. Also if I copy&paste this surfaces to a new Rhino scene the issue appears.

      Best -

        Hello,

The issue you are experiencing with this scene is due to an empty layer in the Decals submenu.
Please delete the empty decal layer and let me know if this resolves it.

        Thank you!

          Great, it works again.

Interesting, I never used the decal function. Maybe it's possible that V-Ray ignore this kind of issue and start's the render process. So, if something isn't right, the user could see it at the rendering. I suppose so the new V-Ray decal support cause the render stop.

Thank you for the quick help!
