  • Rhino material doesn't work like expected

    Hi,

I wonder why some basic materials of Rhino materials doesn't work and I hope it can be added. Please support gloss finish and use the IOR for reflections too. .... After a while I found that the exotic parameter reflection polish is used instead the gloss finish. I think, it would be better to use the basic gloss finish. If I remember me right this parameter is used if OBJ with materials are imported.

    Hi,
we're using all Rhino basic material parameters to build up the shadow V-Ray material. However the correlation is not perfect, due to different purposes and context both materials are used.
We basically aim to cover the "Rendered" viewport appearance in the rendering. We tested very wide range of cases, but minor differences are to be expected.

Could you give a concrete example case where you get a serious difference - screenshots to say the least

Here an example - I expect red plastic with soft reflections and I get a metal finish (IOR is ignored) and the reflections are sharp (glossy ignored).

        Hi,
IOR is not ignored, that IOR=1.5 value is for refraction only. the index of reflection is calculated based on whether fresnel option is on or off. If fresnel is on the index of reflection is 1.6, otherwise it is 20.
Please check the "Fresnel Reflectivity" checkbox down in the advanced settings rollout

With that option on and off I get very close results in V-Ray/Cycles/Viewport
Fresnel reflectivity ON Fresnel reflectivity OFF

Ah, I understand. So, it seems to be a little bit confusing by the history of Rhino. Looks like the Gloss finish is not connected to anything.
