  • Non-Interactive Render does not recall Non-Progressive mode selection

    In Vray for Rhino 5:

When switching from Interactive Render to Non-Interactive Render through the menu buttons, Non-Interactive always reverts to Progressive mode. It does not recall a selection of none-progressive mode.

    Hi monksalve

    Apologies for the delay!

This is odd, would it be possible to share more details regarding:
    • Have you noticed this behavior recently or was it always like that? Have you made any changes prior this happening?
    • Can you let me know the exact version of V-Ray for Rhino used? You can check from V-Ray > Help > About V-Ray. Moreover, have you tried updating/reinstalling to see if the issue persists?
    • Does this happen with specific project/s or it is present even in a freshly created file? If it is project-specific, best would be to forward it through our contact form (make sure to mention this thread in the email)
    • Can you share more details regarding your OS, CPU, GPU/GPU drivers version?
Any additional information along with screenshots/screen recordings would be greatly appreciated.

      Hi Nikoleta,

      I've noticed this after upgrading to V-ray for Rhino 5. I'm using V-Ray for Rhinoceros 7 5.00.01.

Curiously, this seems to happen with fresh files created in Rhino 7 and not with legacy files from Rhino6/Vray 4 combo.

Let me dig a little deeper and add more info

        Hi monksalve,

Thank you for sharing this. Would it be okay to still get in touch with us via our contact form so we can possibly schedule a remote session and try to figure out what is causing this on the spot?

Upgraded to the Rhino 7 Full trial and the behavior seems to have corrected. Might have just been an issue with the Rhino 7 Beta. Will update if I run into it again.

              And I'm back!

Managed to recreate the issue. It has to do with the in-viewport interactive render. To recreate the issue:

              1. Set none interactive rendering to none progressive
              2. Start an interactive rendering in viewport by pulling down the viewport menu on the top left and selecting v-ray interactive
              3. Stop rendering and return to v-ray settings. Turnoff interactive rendering

At this point you should see that the progressive setting has reset to the default of being turned on.

                Hi monksalve

Thank you very much for the steps provided!

The behavior has been logged for further investigation (VRW-3022).

An update on this issue. After considering different approaches, it was decided to leave the current behavior as it is.
Running VPR (viewport rendering) sets the image sampler to progressive and render mode to interactive. Stopping VPR will leave both settings unchanged. Reverting back all settings to their state prior to initalizing VPR may have unwanted consequences if VPR is stopped through the Asset Editor's render button and due to the logic that is currently employed to handle render states our dev team cannot offer an alternative solution.

monksalve , appreciate the time you took to report all this. If there is anything else you would like to see changed or added in V-Ray for Rhino, please let us know!

                  Kind regards,
                  Peter
