  • Vray 5 - Missing material with texture

    Dear V-ray team

    I'm working on project with:
Rhino Version 7 (7.2.21021.7001, 21/01/2021) with the last Vray 5
    and
    V-Ray for Rhinoceros 7 5.00.02;
    Build: 02 Hash: dd8e41a12 Date: Dec 14 2020
    V-Ray NeUI Version: 4.0.2 Build: 173621 Hash: dd2fa4edc Date: Dec 14 2020
    V-Ray Core Version: 5.00.50
    V-Ray AppSDK Version: 2.91.00

Before the latest Rhino update, Vray's material definition worked fine. Every time I reopen the file the materials are read correctly, both simple and complex ones with Vray presets or others with external textures.
After the last update something seems to have changed. All textured materials are black in rendering. Opening with V-ray Asset Editor a material assigned in the project, for example "Stucco A01 50cm", the "Vray Mtl" option disappears and only the Binding option remains.
When I reopen the file, all the textured materials reset even though I have re-associated all the materials.

I remain at your disposal for any clarification

    Hi giobuttu

I made a sample project on Rhino version 7 (7.0.20314.3001, 9.11.2020)/V-Ray 5, hotfix 1, saved it and opened it with Rhino version 7 (7.2.21021.7001, 21/01/2021) but can't seem to reproduce this issue both with materials from the V-Ray Material Library, and custom-textured ones.

That being said, can you answer some questions in order to try and narrow down the issue:
    • You mentioned you are working on a particular project - does it happen only with this specific project?
    • Would the issue persist with a newly created project?
    • Are the maps located on a shared network?
    • Can you let me know if the textures/file path names contain non-standard Latin characters?
    • Would it be possible to forward us the latest vrayneui logs for further investigation? You can find them in %APPDATA%\Chaos Group\V-Ray for Rhinoceros\vrayneui
    • If it is a project-specific issue, best would be to forward the files through our contact form so we can test it in our environment.
    Looking forward to your reply.

      Greetings!

Recently I had a similar issue. First I thought it was becaus my file was created in a previous version of Vray, but, after I fixed all the materials and saved in Vray5, it happened again. I figured that both times it was related to saving and loading a .vropt file.
The first time I saved the .vropt, and then when I rendered some materials were black...and then the next time, I loaded the previously saved .vropt and th ematerials went black again.

        Hi guys,

        Thanks for reporting this.
We'll do some investigation on our side.
Any scenes that you can share will help a great deal.
