GPU preview device: use the global configuration is ignored
I global use "Cuda" but at the materials preview is CPU set per default.
What do you mean by that?
The idea of the Use Global Configuration option is to determine which CUDA devices will be used for Preview rendering - either CPU only or the devices specified by the GPU Device Select Utility tool.
So, there is no way to set the GPU mode as default mode for the material preview? So, who like to get the GPU preview needs to switch it for each Rhino session?
An other issue - could it be possible that the GPU material preview starts so fast like the CPU material preview? If I click through several materials than the GPU preview starts after a short delay and CPU preview is shown immediately.

There is a way - just enable it once and the state will persist between sessions.

I'm aware of this delay - it is caused by a workaround we implemented to avoid a GPU preview crash in specific situations.
It's good that you reminded me of this.
The crash might have already been fixed in Core in which case we can speed up the preview.
I enable GPU preview and open a second Rhino task ... and get CPU preview again. On a GPU optimized machine it could be great to set the mode and never think about it again.
