  • Frame buffer exposure for "all" color channels needed

    Hi,

if I use an exposure correction at the frame buffer and save all channels to the hard disk, than only the effect pass shows the exposure corrected result. But like at VfR4 also the denoise and basic RGB pass should be corrected, so that the user can combine the channels in postwork.

For example I have a fine leather structure which is removed by the V-Ray denoiser. I would like to use the leather areas from the basic RGB channel without denoising. But the exposure doesn't match. At VfR4 it works fine.

(It's an old, reported issue and I ask for it in the hope to get a fix for the coming update. This missing basic function was one reason for me to still use VfR4 often instead VfR5.)

This is a "thing" in Vray in all other packages and has been raised many times. Nothing yet, as far as I can tell, has been done about it. It is possible to bake in your colour mapping and rendering with the render settings tonemapping, but that kind of defeats the object of being able to have grading control in the VFB. Maybe someone can explain why its not been made an option. Ive wanted it for months now in Maya.

Looks like it's implement to the last update for 3dsmax, so I hope we see it at VfR too soon:

      • Add an option for adding VFB color corrections to all render channels when saving to separate files

        Hi Micha,

The VFB option for saving color corrections with the render elements is available in V-Ray 5 for Rhino, update 2.
Please give it a try and let us know if that was what you're after.

            Hi konstantin_chaos,

I'm not sure why, but I see different bright channels again. It's the curve control which isn't applied to the denoiser channel. Could be great if this would be fixed too, since mixing denoise and RGB is very useful to keep noise textures.

            Best regards,
            Micha
