  • Substance Material Support in Vray

New vray user here. Substance materials (.sbsar) that I apply in the rhino interface look correct but vray does not render them in the frame buffer. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong or if vray simply doesn't support substance directly. Thanks in advance, Ed

    Hi edward_cansino,

We don't have a direct support for Substance materials in V-Ray for Rhino.

On the other hand, Substance materials imported in Rhino 7 via the Substanceimporter should render as expected in V-Ray.
You just have to make sure to be running V-Ray 5 for Rhino, update 1.2 or later.
Basically that's when we added full support for the native PBR material, used by the imported Substance shaders.

    Hope that helps,
    Konstantin

      Hi Konstantin,

Thanks for the reply. I am importing to rhino via the substance import plugin. As I mentioned the materials show correctly in rhino view port but not when rendered in vray. Actually as I look closer in the frame buffer it looks like the materials are showing up but very very greyed out. vray is v5.20 and rhino is v7.12. My test scene is just a simple cube with several substance materials on a few faces. Appreciate any help you can give me to resolve this. Hopefully just some mistake I'm making.

      Regards,

      Ed

        Hi edward_cansino,

Can you point us to one of the substance material you've tested with?
We'll test this out here and do our best to resolve any issues quickly.

These were downloaded directly from the substance 3D asset site.
