  • Optix denoiser Error 7001

Hi, yesterday I found some bug with Optix denosier.
I tried to render VR Spherical panorama 6000x3000px, render engine set to RTX and denosier set to NVIDIA.
At the end of bucket rendering it shows Error - Faildet to setup optix denoiser. Error code: 7001.

By setting denoiser back to Vray I have no issues at all.

    Hi pavol_pastork,

I was not able to reproduce the described issue here.
It is possible that updating your GPU drivers resolves the issue.
Note that most of the Nvidia AI denoiser code is actually in the driver itself.

To check which driver version is the currently recommended one you can go to the following link - https://www.chaos.com/vray-gpu
At the time I'm posting this it is - 497.09

    Hope that helps,
    Konstantin

      Hi konstantin_chaos ,
      thank for quick reply.
I regularly check the recommended driver version at vray-gpu page. I use 497.09 driver as you recommend. I use 2 graphic cards - RTX 2060 + 3070.

        Hello, pavol_pastork ,
I assume the issue is not reproducible with other scenes (or newly-created ones).
Could you please pack this project and send it over for investigation via https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new or a file-sharing service of your choice?

In the meantime, please use one of the other denoisers to workaround the current issue.

        Kind regards,
        Peter

I had a similar error years ago (on Max but same error) and it seemed to be a result of the card running out of ram. Never did find a solution other than reverting to vray denoiser.
          www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

I think that it could be the same issue. It happened with interior scene with dome light, plane lights, emmisive materials and some high poly meshes. I test it with another scene.
Question: Does the Nvidia denoiser use the whole amount of VRAM of 2 GPU? 8GB+6GB

Yep, the error is the result of insufficient memory but I cannot guarantee what is the cause (the large output resolution, scene composition or settings) unless there is a scene file for investigation.

The implementation of the NVIDIA denoiser currently uses only one of the devices and doesn't recognize NVLink.

My colleagues from the V-Ray GPU team are working on a new Device Selection UI which will allow separate selection of GPU devices for denoising and rendering as well as custom prioritization per device.

              Kind regards,
              Peter
