    Hello everyone,

    First time posting here, apologies, I realized I have posted this in the wrong section (ment to post in Vray for Rhino).

    I am a jewellery CAD designer working in Rhino. I am new to Vray and rendering in general.

    I've been doing some basic jewellery renders and have found Wrapper materials with "Ignore objects in seconday" extremely useful for rendering gemstones that intersect with metal work geometry and for controlling which parts of the jewellery catch / cast reflections.

    This feature works well in CPU mode, however I can't seem to get it to work in GPU. I would just continue to use CPU, however for some reason the diamonds and other gemstones I'm rendering look much better in GPU.

    Does anyone have a solution to this?

      Hi Muhammed_Hamed thank you and thank you for being willing to help.

      I was not able to upload the file here as every format I tried was not allowed. What is the accepted file format for uploads?

      I have emailed you the file in Rhino 7 .3dm format, please let me know if there is a preferable format.

      The file contains two examples:

      In Example 1, the diamond has a wrapper material applied to it with Ignore Objects in Secondary enabled. When I rendered with CPU this works fine and the stone looks decent, however when I change to GPU (CUDA or RTX) it seems as if this wrapper material/function does not work and the result is the stone is rendered without ignoring the intersecting geometry of the setting.

      In Example 2, the platinum stone setting has a wrapper with Ignore Objects in Secondary enabled. I was using this with CPU rendering to prevent the blue tanzanite gemstone reflecting in the metal work (seat and base plate of the setting). The same setup with GPU rendering does not seem to work.

      I would not be surprised if my problem is due to my own lack of understanding and experience.

      I am attempting to teach myself rendering with the goal of achieving top quality jewellery renders, if anyone reading this has any recommendations for jewellery specific Vray rendering resources or tutorials that would be greatly appreciated.

        Please accept my apologies for the late reply.

        Unfortunately, at the moment, the 'Ignore Objects in Secondary' for the Wrapper material is not supported under the GPU engine. Please see the "Materials" section from the Supported Rendering Features page of our documentation.

          That is very unfortunate as I have just bought a new PC for the purpose of GPU rendering with Vray..

          Is this feature likely to be added in the (not too distant) future? It is extremely useful for jewellery rendering and was one of the reasons why I subscribed to Vray.

          I will definitely post this in the Wishlist section if it has not already been done.

            After discussing the topic with the developers, the 'Ignore Objects in Secondary' feature for the Wrapper material has been added to the roadmap. At the moment, we cannot share a specific ETA.
            Nevertheless, we acknowledge that it is a useful and important feature to have, so we will make sure to work on introducing it to the GPU engine.
