  • V-Ray for Rhino Batch Render Issue with Snapshots

    Hi,

I am using V-Ray for Rhino to render multiple parts in the same studio environment by utilizing snapshots. However, when I start batch rendering with V-Ray, it correctly renders the first snapshot but then renders the same objects from different angles multiple times. This issue wasted my render credits when I sent the objects to Chaos Cloud rendering.

    Steps I Followed:
    1. Created different snapshots for each part.
    2. Configured batch render settings and started the render process.
    3. The first snapshot renders correctly(Which is seen in viewport), but the subsequent ones render the random or same objects from independent angles like it is stuck or trying to render named views.
    Problem:
    • Snapshots are not being rendered.
    • What I see in the Rhino viewport when I call a snapshot is not what I see in the render.
    • During batch render, refreshing causes snapshots to disappear and they do not come back.
    • Snapshots only appear in batch render settings when I first open the file.
    What I Have Tried:
    1. Reviewed the snapshot and batch render settings.
    2. Ensured I am using the latest versions of V-Ray and Rhino.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or solutions from those who have faced similar issues.

    Thank you!

    Hello, mehmetzcebi ,

    Thank you for your report!

I tested the problems you've described and identified two issues - the main one is that if you haven't restored any Snapshots in the Rhino session, V-Ray batch renders the active view multiple times instead of the listed Snapshots in the Batch Render panel. The workaround is to restore any Snapshot once in the Rhino session (double click on the Snapshot from the Rhino Snapshots panel or with the Restore button) and then start Batch render or Cloud Batch render.

The second issue is that the Snapshots are deleted from the Batch Render list once you click on Refresh. The workaround is to delete the project from the list and add it again by clicking on "Add current model". Snapshots are also not loaded when loading the .3dm file from the disk.

Both issues are logged as VRW-4500 and VRW-4501 and we will let you know if there is any progress on them.

Please let me know if there is anything I have missed.

    Kind regards,
    Iva

Turns out that the second issue - Snapshots are deleted from the Batch Render list once you click on Refresh and are also not loaded when loading the .3dm file from the disk, is a Rhino SDK limitation. Unfortunately currently there is nothing we can do about it, but we will let you know if there is any new information.

          Hello iva_mancheva

Thank you very much for your prompt response and assistance!

Following your instructions, I recalled all snapshots once in the Rhino session and started the batch render. By doing this, I no longer experience any issues, both on my machine and with Chaos Cloud.

Of course, with 80-90 snapshots, restoring them every time I open the file can be tedious, but this workaround effectively solves the problem for now.

I appreciate your help. Thank you!

          Kind regards,
          Mehmet

            Hello mehmetzcebi,

It is enough to restore only one (any Snapshot) at the beginning of the Rhino session, you don't need to go through all of them.

            Kind regards,
            Iva

              Hello, mehmetzcebi !

I would like to inform you that after our developers investigated the issue, it turns out that it is a Rhino bug. It was reported to McNeel. The Snapshots' issue is fixed in the latest Rhino 8.11 version and V-Ray Batch Render works fine with snapshots now.

              Regards,
