Since V-ray 6.2 the Scatter tool preview is not responsive and does not work as expected in the Rhino Viewport
There are several issues I have noticed:
N1: In the past when applying scatter to an object if you hide that object from the viewport the scatter preview also gets hidden.
In the current version hiding the scatter object leaves the scatter preview in the viewport (creating a clutter in the viewport)
N2: Even if you remove the scattering from a certain object the Rhino viewport still displays it as if its there - creating confusion as to what will actually get rendered out.
N3: If scatter is re-applied to a surface than the scatter preview disapears all together and even though the scatter renders the vieport does not display any preview.
N4 When the scatter is turned ON/ OFF in the V-ray edditor the scatter is still displayed in the viewport preview which again causes confusion as to what is actually going to render.
In general the Viewport preview is unresponsive / doesnt sunch up well with the scatter tools in the asset editor.
These problems were not present in earlier versions of V-ray when the scatter was first introduced so as new capabilities have been roled out so have some issues.
Happy to provide further details if it increases the chances of this being adressed in the next version.
Lasrtly - this is more of a suggestions and I am happy to make a new post about it: You should be able to applying multiple scatters to a single surface.
A landscape surface that has Grass/ Plants / Trees should not have to have 3 versions of the same object if you want to control the different scatter parameters seperatly.
I suggest there is an extra toolbar in the Scatter properties for each scatter where it lists which surfaces are included in the "Area" that will be scattered on.
ideally Different scatters can than use the same surface as a "Host"
