  • gussian splat .ply file key (opacity) missing

Hello, I have some lidar data in .e57 format. I open them in Rhino and save as in ply format (binary) . I use the Gaussian splat object import in vray , scan appears in the scene as bounding box. when i render it, i receive error saying key (opacity) missing. as a result no rendering.
how can i fix this problem?

    Hi
V-Ray does support Rhino point clouds. Once you have your .e57 file imported in Rhino, you're basically done. V-Ray can render that directly.
On the other hand the .ply format is not strictly defined. V-Ray only support certain features (points) of what a ply file could contain. In this case the .ply exported by Rhino does not contain the alpha channel for the point' colors. Could you send the .ply or part of it so that we could add support for that particular set of ply features

        Hi,

the ply file saved from Rhino is not a Gaussain Splat. It is a point cloud. It has the same extension but not the same data. The point cloud file contains just a position and the color of each point. A Gaussian splat contains much more data, that is lacking in that ply file you get from Rhino.
