  • Material preview missing after updating to V-Ray 7

Hi, I have updated from version 6 to the new V-Ray 7 and updated Rhino 8 as well. I have the latest versions of both V-Ray(V-Ray 7 hotfix 1) and Rhino(8.14.24345.15001). I also wanted to be sure if the issue happens because of the license server that Chaos mentioned soon to be outdated but seems like the update for it is the same update(this hotfix 1). Here is what I encountered: When I start the settings window standard material preview window shows nothing and the play button is visible. When I click play to update the preview nothing happens and couldn't find any solution why? The license servers seem like working fine and I can start rendering but the previews are missing. I guess this is another bothering bug of early releases of V-Ray as always.

Also you could switch between GPU/CPU, maybe it helps to restart the preview.

      Dear yusufcankat_donmez, hello.

Please share with us the vray-neui.log file from the current session.
After observing the missing preview, go to V-Ray > Help > About V-Ray and click over V-Ray Asset Editor Session Log.

In addition, was it working before and currently stopped or after updating to V-Ray 7 you saw the missing preview right away?

      Waiting for your answer.

      Best regards,
      TS

Since there is no update here, I wanted to share that we have observations that users who complaint about:

Error building Embree static ray caster, error message:

        [CommitEmbreeThread::threadProc] 1: Committing scene failed
often share that Material preview in V-Ray Asset Editor is also missing.
That's why I will post here the steps, which are solving both issues in the cases we worked on:

Firstly, please share a screenshot of the System Information Tab (example) to check the model of your processor.

        Additionally please follow those steps:
If the above does not solve the issue then please proceed with:
        • download embree-4.3.3.x64.windows.zip from this website.
        • In the bin folder locate embree_info.exe file. Start Command Prompt (type cmd in Windows Search) and drag&drop embree_info.exe into the command prompt window and click Enter. (Video example)
        • Share a screenshot of the result.

Note that if the RDRAND line is missing (see here the example) it means that your best option is to upgrade your BIOS.

We have received similar cases and the reason is that with some AMD processors, these necessary instructions are missing which should be fixed with the BIOS update.
Please try them and share the result from your configuration as well.
        Thanks in advance.
