  • Glossies not working without fresnell option

Make a simple scene with a sphere. Apply a vraymat to sphere, with a white reflection color. The sphere renders mirror like (=ok).

Now edit the material and change refl glossy to 0.9. Render again: no reflections show up. If you use a grey color for reflection, reflections appear but not strong enough.

When you turn on fresnell, everything works ok.

Also when you set glossy subdivs to for example 30, then you decide to render without glossies so you set the glossy to 1.0 again, close the dialog, reopen it---> subdivs are reset to 8. (not a big problem but sometimes can be annoying)

the issue with the subdivs is that the glossy materials (BRDFBlinn and BRDFPhong) do not currently have a subdivs member. So the subdivs param is only used for the BRDFMirror. That would explain why the reflections are probably messed up. I suppose the BRDFMirror is on in unison with the fresnel glossies, but is not being turned on for regular glossies. Hence, if the mirror is not there, the subdivs aren't being saved to anything and are being reset to the default each time which is, you guessed it, 8. That should be an easy fix, good eye! =)

those problems were not addressed in the new beta. please make sure you read the readme file that you are prompted with during the installer. It tells you what has been fixed in this release. There are still quite a few issues that need to be addressed. Thanks
