  • Large file collapsing during rendering

    Hi!

I?m trying to render a very large file, ap. 35 MB and lots of polygons. It?s a landscape model with an HDRI file attached to the background environment. 2 shaders are attached to the model, one is solid for the land and the other one is a simple transparent for the water.
The file crashes every time after the first render attempt? one render is successful but no more? I get a lack of memory dialog-box (I have P4 3 GH + 2 GB ram) I have a bug report from RHINO, I?ll email it to "crubadue". If you need the file I can email it to you. I?ll try to see if I can reduce the mesh, and see if it helps.

    Best regards

I don't think its the file/mesh size, but more a model problem. I have a model thats about 75mb and it renders just fine, very similar system specs as yours too.

I have 130MB model that also renders fine on 3GB RAM (only 1.7GB used during rendering) but when I cancel the render 2 times, 3th render usually crashes giving me Windows crash requester (not "out of memory").

You are right. A few times I've got the memory problem with the large file on 230MB, but the rest is actually ?Windows crash requester? as you get. I?ve reduced the file size to 30MB by MESHING my NURBS. But it runs really slow and painful and it crashes after the 1st rendering anyway? Could be the model problem as ?SaadUrRahman? says... but I?ve not find any thing in the model yet.

            Large file collapsing during rendering

This is what I get when I try to save the file after a few renderings (one full render and one canceled and try to render the file again...)

This is what I get when I try to save the file as a new name!

            and it follows like this...

Could be memory leak with large files. After exiting the render bring up the Windows Task Manager and go to processes and sort them by Mem Usage. See if Rhino is still using a large chunk of memory after the render aborts.

the problem with this is caused by a horrible mistake on my part. Basically you have 40k render meshes in that scene and right now I am making 40k materials even though each mesh is using the same material. Yes, yes thats why I get paid the big bucks...

This will be fixed ASAP, unfortunately we just sent out beta 7 so it is not going to be fixed in that release. I'll try to get the next release out soon with several pending bug fixes..
