-I can't cancel a render anymore. I can only close it
-I have the impression that the vray message window slows down the start of a render a lot. It takes about 14 seconds to start the actual rendering of a sphere... Same goes for the pause in between two ir map passes
-the progress bar doesn't work correctly
-hidden geometry shows up in the rendering if you render right after you have hit the hide button

I have the same, but if you hit once in the rendering image area then you can cancel!
Somehow the render image and the view missing the focus, even if the render-window is selected
It works for me just to hit once in the image area and then hit cancel

It works if you hit the image region first, yes. Will look at this too.

Yes it is slower. It was also slower in Rhino when I was dumping text out to the command line. We'll have an option to turn it off in the next build and I will look into ways to streamline it, but it will always be slower with the log window on than with it off. The 14 seconds to start rendering a sphere seems a bit high to me, but I'll look into it... Keep in mind there are other things that happen before the render buffer pops up, parsing the geometry table, the light table, etc..

Same here but if you use the renderwindow its much faster at starting up, even if you marquee the whole scene.

I'm simply comparing to vray for max, where the vray messages don't seem to have such a big impact on the processing time.

yes, you are correct, I apologize I just didn't realize it was that much different. I've managed to get 40-60% better results now. My beginning rendering of a sphere took 18 seconds (ewww) and is now back down to an average of 5-7. Keep in mind also that I have no warning level stuff( I believe Max defaults to level 3), so I print every message which may account for a little more time in there. I'm also running on a debug build which is inherently slower, but I think the gains should be signifant in the release version as well. I'm still checking it out to find some additional bottlenecks if they exist.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
