  • Re: beta build 11 surface edges...

This wasnt happening with 10, and it's the same model. remaking the surface gets rid of it sometimes, but not always. It may be messy modeling, but the model is pretty clean and i dont understand why it hadn't shown up before.

does anyone have any suggestions or advice on how to fix it?

I have notice this too. When the edges in the model are not connected and the light is coming out between the edges!
Some how I believe in the new build 11, the calculation is more precise and it?s harder to get pass without modelling exactly.
For example I know that my model is not perfect right now (it?s just a sketch) and I haven?t closed all the edges properly yet. But the same model was rendered OK in build 10_5 and now in the build 11 I get this:

Same model rendered in build 11

Same model rendered in build 10_5

        Crash:
        • Create a material
        • add several layers (say diffuse)
        • Apply to an object
        • Open that material again
        • Import one of the diffult materials
        • Apply
        • Try to open the material again
        • Crash

When importing a material with less layers, the old excess layers remain. (This might be the cause of the crash.

The jagged edges are the result of faces normals not pointing in the right direction.

To see what faces need to be flipped type AdvancedDisplay at the Rhino command line. Then enable Color backfaces and select a color that will standout. Apply the settings and then go back to your viewport and choose the shaded display type Ctrl+Alt+S.

This will resolve these bad edges for you. Something like this has come up in a previous build. I will talk with Joe and Vlado about this.

There was an error there...the transparency maps weren't being used on diffuse layers. Thanks for pointing this out

Yes, previously we had everything hardcoded to do a 180 degree rotation. I'm not really sure why all the images seem to come in this way. I believe we've asked Vlado to look at this, and worst come to worst we'll just put that initial rotation back on by default

                  • Double Click Problems

If I drag a saved .3dm file onto the Rhino Icon or Double Click a 3dm file in explorer, it will open, but the Vray options are all reset to their defaults. Often the materials are gone to.

However, if I open Rhino, and Open the fiel from within Rhino, things are fine. Any ideas?

Ok, yeah Micha had reported the same thing. Does it happen to the same file every time or does it appear to be random? If its the same file, is there any way you could send that to me?

                          • Double-sided

I'm getting facets on surfaces in renderings that are facing the wrong way. I can fix these by flipping the surfaces, but itis tedious. I have my materials all set to double-sided but that doesn't work.

Also, I'm losing material assignments when I close a file. Not all, but some. I use a lot of groups and my custom materials reside on a network.

I've still had the hide/unhide problem.

And materials confuse me. I have no way to click on an object to tell what material its been assigned. The import/export format doesn't seem intuitive. Are you planning more of a browser? Once I make all my materials, I want to browse them when assigning. I wouldn't call this "creating."

Now it seems to work here with my crash test file. Maybe the SR5 has helped.
