  • Re: **** PLEASE POST ALL VFR4 PROBLEMS HERE *****

I have a material with a jpeg texture in the diffuse, and a jpeg texture as a bump map with objectxyz mapping turned on. The rendered viewport shows the object colored with the bump map texture! But it renders correctly.

I've been working on a rendering of a spa with water and reflections. I can get the colour of the water right with fog, but when I add the displacement map for the reflections the colour disappears. Is this a bug?
I'm not sure - we'll have to do some tests. Thanks

ok - I guess when I set the basic material stuff I'm switching stuff around. Thanks

So I made some tests, and always after loading of rhino scene and rendering of image than I have to create new sun light and update environment options in V ray with new sun. Than everything is going good!
            I like those images

Do you have to do this Sun-Light fix when doing regular renders, or is it just during DR renders? Thanks

The Default camera is not working in the demo. I have installed the demo from the website.
I get white renderings. The physical camera is working nice though with the sun settings.

I want to do 360° sperical images...can someone post a visop file that actually works please?

the camera is probably working, but if you use the sun with the standard cam,you have to lower the sun intensity way down, like .003 or so.

I split the remainder of Heavyweather's camera stuff into its own topic

I get buggy materials when I group vismats with basics. I have a bunch of objects- some are assigned vismats and some are basic (with texture maps). Then I group these together. Everything is fine, but after awhile (maybe I close & re-open, etc.) the basic materials are not rendering correctly. I ungroup to check out their material assignments and find they have been switched to vismats (plugins). Haven't nailed down exactly when it happens, but I'm noticing it.

Is there any problems known with files that were started in R3 and now are being used with R4? Any changes in Vray that might explain it?

                      Thanks,
                      Craig

When I open a fresh new Rhino file and open visopts, I see the "old" default settings. When you restore default settings you get the "new" default settings. That could confuse some beginners.

I'm not sure I follow - the defaults aren't being loaded properly for you? When you open a new scene it should load "default.visopt" so it should be doing exactly what "Restore Defaults" does.

You never apply any material to the group object? I'll play around and see if I can replicate this behavior. Thanks

If your loading a template file that you made, or was saved over then it will have the vray settings that you saved with it. So if you happened to save over the mm template file with old Vray than it will have the old defaults. I personally made a new template file for my dual monitor set up and switched around some of the defaults and I have that get loaded up every time I open Rhino.

                              Re: Default Environment settings

Is there a reason why I need to input a multiplier of 20000 to get a decent exposure using the GI(sky) slot when not using a sky map? (this didn't happen in the earlier betas - I am using the Vray Rhino 4.0 v1.0 trial)

By default the sky works with a multiplier of 1, but for most new users as soon as they remove the sky map from the GI(sky) and background slots they are going to get a black rendering and be asking "what the . . . !?"

I thought you where aiming for more meaningful multiplier values with this release

Also the background colour needs a multiplier of 10000 to match the colour of the foreground objects. (In all previous versions the background was independent of illumination - I thought).

More of an observation than a gripe, comments anyone?

Is this a good thing - what are the benefits?

Is there a way to use a sky map system with a monotone (grey scale) output rather than blue?

                              Cheers

                              Paul

All of the high GI multiplier values are because the physical camera is enabled by default. This because the settings for the physical camera are to properly expose the sun and sky, which are extremely bright. You can change this by adjusting the settings of the physical camera (f-stop, shutterspeed, ISO) to change the exposure so the multiplers don't have to be so high, or simply go back to using the standard camera.

As far as tweeking the color of the the sky, I would suggest downloading the VfR Manual. It has a section detailing the settings of the sun and sky, as well as the physical camera, whats going on in the default settings, and almost every other thing thats in vfr.
