  • Texture Mapping Problems

Just when I thought that I had a handle on teh texture maps ...

I have spent most of today trying to get the woor grain on a coffee table to act correctly. I have been using planar projection, and it seems that each tim eI mess with the file, change a floor texture, or do just about anything, my textures will try to trick me and change orientation, even though the mapping box is shown, and hasn't moved.

Even if I delete the map, and create it again from scratch, it doesn't necessarily mean that it corrects itself. Is this a VRay issue or is the Rhino mapper really that bad?

Someone suggested editing a material and quickly hitting apply to remind Rhino to relaod the geometry, but this isn't helping either. Any ideas?

    Texture Mapping Problems

I noticed I'd get a similar problem if I triy to render the scene using the "RenderWindow" command for a quick preview. Rendering with the 'Render' command seems to be the only way to get the intended mapping result.

You're right about opening the material editor and clicking apply for it to refresh the geometry.

I believe the next service pack (5?) for Rhino will have the mapping corrections we need. But for now, its that bad.

currently you have to alter the scene in some way to have your mapping changes take effect. If you just edit a material, make no changes, and hit apply, then that will be enough to invalidate the scene so your mapping changes take effect.

I've heard other people say this RenderWindow problem, personally I don't see how that would have different mapping effects than the Render command, but I haven't had a chance to really play with it yet.

As far as I know, RCM and Serivce Pack 5 are not related in anyway, so I don't think SP5 fixes any of RCM's mapping problems.

Please email a scene to info@asgvis.com including all the textures you are trying to use and an explanation of the problem and we'll see if we can figure something out.

        Texture Mapping Problems

... here my experience and a small trick for a stable mapping:

The renderwindow/renderpreview command problem seems to be a RCM problem, because other renderer like treefrog show the same effect. Joe, could be good if you report it to McNeel. Also you could report, in the inofficial SR5 is the meshmanager missing (but can be copied from the previous bonus tools).
