  • Rendered Viewport Mode Seems Slow and Odd Crash

    Hi All,

I have been looking at a vehicle cab interior recently - a fairly large file. I've noticed that when working in Rendered Viewport mode the feedback is much, much slower than in shaded, ghosted etc. Is this anything to do with how Rhino previews the VRay materials?

    My system is as follows:

Alienware m7700 P4 3.0 GHz (hyperthreading enabled) 2GB RAM 256MB nVIDIA GeForce 6800, Rhino v3 SR5B VRay RC2. I know the Quadro card would be better but I'm not seeing this big a difference between shaded and rendered viewport in Flamingo.

Also sometimes when I've been in Rendered Viewport mode and then tried to render out in VRay I get a crash with an error message saying something about a C++ Runtime Error (I'm not a programmer so this doesn't mean much to me).

And again with the same file VRay sometimes seems to stall in the Prepass Stage (1of4) and I get some strange feedback from the Render Progress window with the phrase 'Irradiance Map Thread' repeated over and over again - then the only way I can get out of Rhino is to force quit from Task Manager. I guess I may have a corrupted object but five out of six renders run OK then I get a crash or stall. Wierd!

    Any help would be appreciated.

      Hi Corey,

Sure, the file is confidential though so can I send it to you direct by e-mail? I'll try to reduce the file size before zipping it up.

What e-mail address should I use and if the file is too big is there are secure portion on your FTP server?

      Thanks,

      Phil

If you'd like you can zip it up and password protect the zip file. Then upload it to ftp://asgvis.com/incoming

Email either me or Corey to let us know the password for the archive. Thanks for your help!

Rendered Viewport Mode Seems Slow and Odd Crash

          Hi Joe,

I'm trying to get the file size reduced before sending the file. The file is big >150MB because it has lots of hidden layers with chassis details etc that are not being rendered. I'll try renders from the smaller file before sending it over.

          Thanks,

          Phil

            Phil,

You can send the 150MB file. There is no worry from our end. If you want to save yourself some time just upload it as is.

            Best regards,

            Corey
