  • Area Lights and "Store with Irradiance Map"

    Hallo,

here problem I have with arealights. If I use the option "Store with Irradiance Map", but have disabled GI for a quick scene test, than the lights are dark. Is it a bug? If not, it could be very useful, if the option "Store with Irradiance Map" could be internal ignored for non GI renderings.

I'll test it - but your saying the lights come out darker than they would in a non-gi render without "Store with Irradiance Map" checked?

Ok after messing around with it more and talking with Vlado it seems that this is just how it is. V-Ray for Max reacts the same way.

Right - I see what you mean. I was told that its how V-Ray for Max responds as well.

Not a good way. So the user can not disable GI without to touch the light options. I hope Vlado can fix it.

Yeah but it's pretty normal. The option says 'store with ir map'. So if you don't use ir map, you don't get light.

If you have set a skylight, and you turn of GI, you also don't have light. It's quite similar.

But I understand what you mean, in some cases it would be cool if this options is temporarly switched of if you switch of GI. But on the other hand, it can also confuse people who are testing this option since suddenly the lights work in non GI while it is a GI dependant option. You can also make a button that selects all lights in the scene, and then you only have to turn off the store option. It's two clicks
