This really isn't a bug as much as an annoyance. But when I open a Rhino file that I used Vray with, the render engine is set back to Rhino. It never used to do this. Any idea why it does?

Was the file last saved with V-Ray as the renderer? I'm not positive how Rhino determines what the active renderer is - whether it just uses whatever the last renderer was overall or if it is file specific.

Ok - I posted a thread on the Rhino plugin forum and Dale said the following to me

Some time ago, I wrote a utility plug-in that would reset the default
renderer to the "Rhino Render" when Rhino closed. The intent of this was to
keep Flamingo from loading without the user knowing and thus taking up a Zoo
license (if a Zoo server was running). Is it possible that he has this
plug-in? I don't recall the name of it...

Also, the default renderer is stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Is it possible
that he does not have enough rights in his own user key?

I responded and said that your renderers of choice were Flamingo and V-Ray so I suppose that utility plugin is a possible culprit? I'm assuming that you do have rights to read your own registry. I asked if he could find the name of that plugin so we can be sure. I'll let you know when he responds.

Okay- it's really just a minor annoyance and I can't seem to repeat it predictably. Sometimes I find that when I save a new alias in Rhino it isn't there when I start back up and I've always thought it might have something to do with running multiple sessions of Rhino at once, which I do a lot.

I'll let you know if I repeat it and how.

I believe it is called "ResetDefaultRenderer".

If you have this plugin loaded then it may explain your issue. Otherwise I'm not sure what it could be. Since you say it just started happening - perhaps you have made recent updates/ additions of other Rhino plugins? Let me know if I can be of any more help.
