phantom material

I have a file with 1 surface in it, material assigned by layer. The scene renders correctly. But, the material is not listed in the material editor. (I had a large file and I deleted everything except this one surface.)

A bug, I presume?

Is the material just a rhino material? I'd need the scene to see whats going on. If you'd like you can upload it to ftp://ftp.asgvis.com/incoming. Thanks
