Assigning materials to layers

I think i found a bug.

When you assign a material to a layer it works fine.

When you click that material in the layer you get a material layer pop up where you have the choice to edit the material or use a basic option.

If u then click edit, you end up in the material editor. If i then import a new material and assign that to the layer by using "assign material to layer", it doesn't seem to work. I then tried deleting the material and i end up with a default material on my layer which i cannot delete (see image).

There is no default material in my list...how can i get rid of it on my layer?

Basically, if you have created materials and put them on layers, then delete them out of the material editor...your're stuffed...cant delete them. If you start adding new ones they wont overwrite?

Any ideas?

also deleting layer names doesn't update in the list of layers that you want to assign a material to.

I would post a pic but don't know how
