  • Vray for Rhino 3 crashes

... Vray for Rhino 3 crashes on rendering - problem is some Brazil component !? ( I dont have Brazil installed at all ). I got the same problem with my previous model.

Scene is high detailed - I can render objects separated at 2 groups but not all scene

... later I`ll post screenshots ( and .dmp files may be ) ...

    My hardware: 2x64b Xeon 1,7 MzH , 2x1GB RAM

If somebody can help - I`ll be thankful

Re: Vray for Rhino 3 crashes

Could be a RAM problem - Rhino v3 crash at 1.6GB allways, independent from VfR or the OS. Look at the rhino.exe at the taskmanager.

If it is a RAM problem, than you could

    (1) enable bigger RAM space for Rhino 3 per this little tool
http://www.asgvis.com/index.php?opti...=90&topic=3766 or upgrade to Rhino 4

    (2) set a 3GB switch for the 32bit OS (I'm not sure it helps) -> search at www how it must be done

    (3) general try to keep your RAM usage low:

Re: Vray for Rhino 3 crashes

Probably is RAM...the easiest way is to try and use a coarser render mesh as thats where alot of memory is used both in Rhino and Vray.

What resolution are you trying to render at?

Re: Vray for Rhino 3 crashes

... thanx for your reply guys ,

Model becomes pretty heavy - I rebuild mesh ( at 10 deg ) of only 1 layer and model becomes 448mb !!! At standard mesh settings file is 178 mb.

        I delete this file - I`ll try 15 deg tommorow ...

        Micha :
where i must install this 4GB patch ?

        dalomar :
screen resolution 1680x1050 pix ( is that high res ? )

... once again thanx for support

Re: Vray for Rhino 3 crashes

If the model is that heavy, then I would really suggest getting the meshes out into one file. Separating the meshes from the Nurbs can bring things down. Also, take advantage of custom render meshes...this will allow you to control the polys on a per object basis allowing you to optimize as much as possible.

I wouldn't say its hi res, but depending on what your machine is, and the fact that your model's a big one I'm not surprised that its acting like hi res....memory is memory and when its gone things are going to either slow to a halt or die. I could probably make a 300x200 image crash with an insane amount of polys and huge textures.

            thanx dalomar ...
so you advice me to "mesh" surfaces and to delete NURBS after that - right ?

            This sounds logical ...

There is another problem if Vray not crash - rendering becomes checkered some squares becomes black ...
What is the option for decreasing of the rendering squares size ( to decrease memory usage ) ?

Re: Vray for Rhino 3 crashes

The option to decrease the bucket size is in the System rollout. That will save on a little memory, but probably not enough to make that huge of a difference.

You could patch the Rhino.exe per little tool ntcore and add the 3GB switch at the OS boot.ini

dalomar / Micha - thanx once again.
I`ll try the things you advice me tonight.

Is it meshing and deleting the NURBS way for decreasing file size ???

At 15deg covering mesh in Rhino 3 file is 192 mb some options at Rhino 4 file becomes 342mb ?! :'(

I saw there is option in Rhino 4 - custom mesh settings - per layer , I`ll smooth just some parts of the model.

                  thanx for support

Re: Vray for Rhino 3 crashes

There are more ways to setup the mesh settings - maybe you can find one with less polygons. For example you could start with all options at 0 and use the "max distance edge to surface" (max error between NURBS and render mesh).
For example if you render a product with units mm, than this error could be 0.1. Try to find the highest not extrem visible error. If some parts looks wrong, than use the object properties -> custom mesh settings to refine this objects only.

Very impressiv model and nice renderings.

PS: interesting - PNG images with alpha channel at the forum pages.

I can see why you've been having trouble...very detailed model, and extremely well done.

Micha , dalomar thanx once again for support.
I think problem was in geometry : some parts wich Vray "reading" so hard - so I just remove those parts , export and rescale the model in new file everything start working fine.

I wanna thanx personal to Micha for the great material tuts - I learn a lot of things from him.

I download a pdf file from here - there is recommendation to smooth your cover meshes at 4 deg !!! ... for high poly scenes this is impossible - files becomes GB ( gigabytes ) or computer block and generate some problems in geometry ( in my case ).

Yea, the manual was originally written by Cafer of McNeel Asia, so thats probably a good suggestion from McNeel's side of things, but the practicality of it may be in question.

With meshes, there's a lot of ways to get to where you need to go, so its best to experiment with some different types of settings to see what works well with the kind of geometry you create. Below is a link to the main meshing page on the Rhino Wiki. HTH

OT...any chance you want to let me play around with the model ;D
