  • VRay license server issue

Hello, we currently have version 01.01.71 installed on a Windows Server 2003 R2 with Service Pack 2 and all updates. I've added 10 serial numbers with 2 seats per serial number into the license server, which should allow up to 20 clients to be able to use VRay at one time. Although we have only installed Vray for only 5 client computers, which does not exceed the number of available licenses.

The problem is that sometimes a client will not be able to obtain a license when opening Vray in Rhino.

I had previously set up the clients to access Vray licenses to the server, and it will ask me again, so I select floating license option

I enter our license server computer name, I have also tried IP address

So the client computer seems to think that there are no Vray licenses available when we know they are. We do not have any firewalls installed, and we have Windows firewall turned off. I find myself restarting the license server, and clients will be able to open vray, but after some time, the issue will come up again. I have submitted a support request a little over a week ago, but did not receive a helpful response. They have mentioned that I should check the contents of the MasterPurchase.txt file on the license server. I checked and found only one serial number listed (the first one I entered), and some random number to the left of it.

Please advise me on this issue because it has been a reoccurring problem and clients are not happy when they can't get on Vray!

    Thanks..

    Re: VRay license server issue

My current suggestion would be a clean uninstall and reinstall of the license server. The license server and the licenses themselves being loaded correctly are very important. In general, any modifications or additions to license/the server should be done while the server isn't dealing with managing any licenses.

Damien, thanks for your reply. I have done a uninstall of the license server prior to installing the newest version. My exact steps were uninstalling the license server, rebooting the server, installing the new license server. I had called ASGVIS and emailed them several times to get all our serial numbers to work, since we were upgrading to the later version. I have also tried reinstalling from the client side, but the issue still occurs. Would this have anything to do with the MasterPurchase.txt file?
